  1.   The Holy Spirit is a Person.
     

    1.  This is proven by His attributes.
       

      1. He has feelings. (Ephesians 4:30)
         

      2. He has intelligence. (I Corinthians 2:10-11)
         

      3. He has a will. (I Corinthians 12:11)
         

    2.  This is proven by His works.
       

      1. He commands men. (Acts 8:29)
         

      2. He speaks. (John 15:26)
         

      3. He teaches. (John 14:26)
         

      4. He guides. (Romans 8:14)
         

      5. He helps us pray. (Romans 8:26)
         

  2.   The Holy Spirit is God.
     

    1. This is proven by His works.
       

      1. The Holy Spirit creates. (Gen 1:2)
         

      2. The Holy Spirit inspired the Word of God. (II Peter 1:21)
         

      3. The Holy Spirit caused Mary to conceive Christ. (Luke 1:35)
         

      4. This is proven by His being equated with the other two Persons of the Trinity. (Matthew     28:19; II Corinthians 13:14)

    2.   This is proven by His attributes.
       

      1. The Holy Spirit is Omnipotent. (Luke 1:35)
         

      2. The Holy Spirit is Omniscient. (I Corinthians 2:10-11)
         

      3. The Holy Spirit is Omnipresent. (Psalm 139:7-10)
         

      4. The Holy Spirit is Eternal. (Hebrews 9:14)
         

  3.   The Work of the Holy Spirit
     

    1. The Holy Spirit took part in creation. (Gen. 1:2; Job 33:4; Isaiah 40:12)
       

    2. The Holy Spirit came upon men in the Old Testament. (Judges 3:10; I Samuel 10:9-10)
       

    3. The Holy Spirit is the author of inspiration. (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 3:16)
       

    4. The Holy Spirit regenerates those who trust in Christ. (John 3:5-6) .
       

    5. The Holy Spirit seals us unto the day of redemption, making our salvation secure. (Eph. 1:13-14; 4:30)
       

    6. The Holy Spirit indwells believers today. This indwelling is permanent, and it begins at the moment of salvation. (I Corinthians 6:19)
       

    7. The Holy Spirit fills (controls) believers today as they yield their lives to His will. (Eph. 5:18) A believer who is filled by the Holy Spirit will produce the fruit of the Spirit in his life. (Gal. 5:22)
       

    8. The Holy Spirit convicts men of the truth of the gospel. (John 16:8)
       

    9. The Holy Spirit baptizes believers into the Body of Christ. (I Corinthians 12:13)
       

    10. The Holy Spirit assures us that we are the children of God. (Romans 8:16)
       

    11. The Holy Spirit comforts us. (John 14:26)
       

  4.   The Gifts of the Holy Spirit
     

    1. Every believer has at least one spiritual gift, which is to be used to edify the church. (I Peter 4:10; I Cor. 14:26)
       

    2. The source of these gifts is the Holy Spirit, who bestows them upon each believer according to His own will. (I Corinthians 12:11)

      • The gifts of the Holy Spirit include:
         

      1. *Apostles

      2. *Prophecy/Word of Wisdom/Word of Knowledge

      3. *Miracles

      4. *Healing

      5. *Tongues

      6. *Interpretation of tongues

      7.  Teaching

      8.  Faith

      9.  Helps

      10.  Governments/Ruling

      11.  Discerning of spirits

      12.  Ministry

      13.  Exhortation

      14.  Giving

      15.  Mercy
         

    3. The six gifts marked with asterisks (above) were given to believers during the apostolic period of the church for specific reasons, either as signs for unbelievers, validating the apostles' ministry, or as a source of revelation to the early church since the Bible had not yet been completed. These gifts are no longer in existence today.
      (I Cor. 14:20-22; Ephesians 2:20; Hebrews 2:3-4)
